And this weak point usually ends in a miscarriage of justice for American victims
There are numerous reports of illegal immigrants committing crimes; they can be found nearly on a daily basis. But, to shut up the pro-illegal immigrant crowd before they start flapping their gums, I’m not referring to the drug runners, the gang members, or the human traffickers. I’m referring to the run-of-the-mill miscreants and scumbags the news is filled with (well, if you know where to look where the media has hidden the stories, anyway). These are the …

It’s about time a state – any state – did something; it’s a good start, but is it enough?
I am a registered Republican. I am a Conservative. Many talking heads in the media – and in politics – love to say that because I admit (proudly) to those two descriptive terms that means I am therefore heartless; that I lack compassion; that I’m just a greedy, all-for-me-and-none-for-you money-grubber. Yup, me and Dick Cheney; buds for life. Just don’t go hunting with either one of us; we’ll shoot you dead in the …

Rep. Jim Matheson Favors Amnesty; Act Could Give 23,000 Illegal Immigrant Young People In Utah Direct Path To Citizenship
About 23,000 illegal-immigrant youths and young adults in Utah could be put on the path to citizenship if the proposed DREAM Act passes Congress, according to a study released Thursday.
The study by the Migration Policy Institute, a D.C.-based think tank, says that Utah would be more heavily affected by the bill than most states, since the state has the 15th highest number of people who could benefit from the bill (25% of …

Tim Bridgewater: A Modern Example of Gallant Magnanimity
There isn’t a plethora of people in the global, national, or regional spotlight nowadays that take public loss well. As a matter of fact, there hasn’t been a great number of those in many a-year. Napoleon Bonaparte comes to mind. He was eventually defeated, sent into exile on Elba, escaped and remained at large – seizing control of the government and going on the offensive – for 100 days before being forced to surrender (Waterloo) and sent to final exile on St. Helena, …

Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 22 is the Primary vote here in the State of Utah. We have a bit of a different system than the rest of the states in the Union. Heck, more than “a bit”: a completely different system altogether. See, what we do is we go out to the west desert and let anybody who wants to run for office get a three-minute running head start. Then carefully vetted marksmen, armed with high-velocity slingshots and armor piercing paintball guns…….
Ah, but to dream. We do have a very unique …

I usually prefer, as most writers do, to use my own words to express my mind and my oft-times bewildering opinions. But every once in awhile a piece comes along that is written just so that I can think of no way to express it in any better manner. I have no particular beef with Senator DeMint; he’s been a staunch champion of conservative principles in this, his first term. But the whole – and proper –  connection needs to be made nevertheless. So, in its entirety, is a clarification that may …

If So Call Al Gore, ‘Cause Global Warming Has Come To Utah!
or
I’m Not a Climatologist, But I Play One On TV…….
Just a few musings that have been rambling around in the ol’ attic the last day or so. Generally, organizing political events is not a spur-of –the-moment thing; it takes planning, logistics, dedication, and a whole boatload of teamwork. And time. Let’s not forget that little nugget.
I’ve talked about the debates between the candidates to be the next junior U.S. Senator from Utah, Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee (listed alphabetically by …

I have neither attended, nor listened on the radio, to all of the Utah Senatorial debates neither before or after the State Convention. But I have been and listened to enough of them; additionally I have conducted independent research, devoted much serious thought, read copious amounts of campaign literature, and debated others myself. As a result I am extremely confident that I have an excellent grip on the reality of where the candidates stand, what type of Senator they’ll be, and how they’ll serve the State of Utah.
But it wasn’t until two …

I’ve always tried to walk the high road, to take the “noble” path of integrity in all aspects of my life. It’s something I take great pride in; something that is innately me, that defines who I am. Now, I’m not perfect; I’ve slipped here and there, taken a misstep or two along the way but I’ve learned from my mistakes and as I’ve grown older (and, I hope, wiser) I can recognize those off-shoots from the path before I get there and make the necessary course corrections. Taking that …

This piece is intended to be a tutorial of sorts; so if someone could somehow bring it to President Obama’s attention, it would both be much appreciated and very instructive for all concerned. Our illustrious potentate has come under much scrutiny and been met with considerable consternation, scorn, and criticism for his response to – or lack thereof – the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana (pronounced “Loo-zee-ana” for those of us in the know). If he follows the example set by the governor …
