The Blind Spot of Lax – In Practice – U.S. Immigration Policy
And this weak point usually ends in a miscarriage of justice for American victims
There are numerous reports of illegal immigrants committing crimes; they can be found nearly on a daily basis. But, to shut up the pro-illegal immigrant crowd before they start flapping their gums, I’m not referring to the drug runners, the gang members, or the human traffickers. I’m referring to the run-of-the-mill miscreants and scumbags the news is filled with (well, if you know where to look where the media has hidden the stories, anyway). These are the people – usually males – who, besides the obvious of breaking the immigration laws, care not one whit about any of the other laws of this country, and think they can do whatever they want when ever they want. Take into account the following examples, some of which you’ve heard about, some of which you haven’t:
Jose Madrigal-Lopez, 46, an illegal immigrant, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sexual exposure charge in Seattle (it had been for rape, but the prosecutors said they lacked enough evidence), and was released to go on about his business. Deport him? He was deported to Mexico 10 times between 1997 and 2004, but each time returned to the U.S. (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2012312451_immigrant09m.html)
Francis Hernandez, the Denver illegal who in 2008 was driving 80 miles per hour on a surface street – without a license – and then hit a pickup truck with two older ladies, sending that truck into a Baskin-Robbins, killing not only the two women in the truck but a 3-year-old boy who was there having ice cream with his mother. Hernandez had been arrested 16 times for charges such as forgery, assault, theft, fraud and numerous misdemeanor offenses in the Denver metro area – and was never referred to ICE. Isidro Pena Soto, whose SUV slammed into an oncoming pickup truck on a two-lane highway in Northern California - after passing another car at 90 miles-per-hour - killing a 33-year-old father of five; Pena, 26, was driving without a license while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. CHP officers found two pounds of meth in his vehicle and more at his home. It was not his first brush with U.S. law, and had been arrested or convicted at least nine times since 2003 – but never deported. (http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=41232)
Here in Utah, Roberto Roman wasn’t even hiding. He has a MySpace page that tells where he lives. He shot and killed a Millard County, Utah sheriff’s deputy in January of this year. He initially entered the U.S. legally back in 1990, but was deported in 1998 following felony drug convictions. He’s been arrested twice for illegally re-entering the country. Utah is a prime target for illegal immigrants because they feel there’s less of a focus on the issue in the state. You think? (http://www.ksl.com/?sid=9238762&nid=148)
Illegal Arnold J. Mancia-Morales, 25, was convicted in 2008 for raping a 75-year-old Virginia woman in her home, and eventually given a sentence of life – plus 53 years. But this wasn’t his first brush with the law, either: in 2006 he was convicted of felony burglary, and four misdemeanor charges between 2007-2008, two of which were assaults. In 2007, he forced himself on a young girl at a local Virginia library; he only received a 100-day sentence for the attack, but all of the time was suspended (the judge that handed down that sentence should have been taken out and used as a pinata). I like a quote I ran across from Virginia Attorney General Robert McDonnell: “There is no right to come to America, but there is an obligation to obey the same laws everyone else has to obey or suffer the consequences”. Can he be my state’s AG? There are many, many other examples that are available if one just does a very simple internet search (I’ll leave a few more links at the bottom to start you off). But amnesty proponents don’t want to do any legwork; they just want to regurgitate the old, worn-out mantra about “the vast majority of immigrants are just coming here in search of a better life”. Some are, I agree.
But the number of illegals committing crimes such as the ones mentioned here are far more frequent than the bleeding-hearts want to admit or the main-stream media want publicized; ANY occurrences are shameful and unfortunate. But the frequency with which they are actually happening is frightening, and the authorities who do little or nothing should also have to answer to the victims, their families, and the public. The miscarriages of justice is on THEIR heads as well as on the specific illegal perpetrators, for by their inaction they enabled these so-and-so’s (I’m trying to be nice; can you tell?) to continue to commit crime after crime after heinous crime.
This is why, with the Federal Government failing so atrociously at curbing illegal immigration and securing our borders, the individual states MUST be allowed to protect themselves and their citizenry as Arizona is bravely attempting to do. As much as I’d like to pin all the blame on Obama, Reid, and Pelosi, in all honesty we’ve also got to include Dubya, Bubba, Bush 41, and the various House and Senate majorities of the previous three administrations (at least). They’ve all failed miserably in this matter, in my estimation. It’s time we let the individual states pick up the slack where the feds are too cowardly to tread.
